Antigua and Barbuda: Asot Michael passes away at 75
Former Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Asot Michael passed away at the age of 75.
Michael passed away at Mount St. John's Medical Centre. No cause of death has been released.
Michael served as Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda from 1994 to 2004.
During his time in office, he oversaw a period of economic growth and stability for the country. He was also a strong advocate for regional integration and cooperation.
Michael was born in 1948 in the village of Swetes, Antigua. He was the son of sharecroppers and grew up in poverty.
Despite his humble beginnings, Michael excelled in school and went on to study law at the University of the West Indies. After graduating, he returned to Antigua and Barbuda and entered politics.
Michael was first elected to Parliament in 1984. He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Finance before being elected Prime Minister in 1994.
Michael's death is a great loss to Antigua and Barbuda. He was a respected leader and a tireless advocate for the people of his country.
He will be sadly missed.
