Carlos Alcaraz loses to Casper Ruud in Turin
Alcaraz's title defense in Turin comes to an end
Carlos Alcaraz's title defense at the ATP Finals in Turin came to an end on Saturday as he was defeated by Casper Ruud in the semifinals.
The Norwegian played the match of his life to beat Alcaraz 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 35 minutes.
Ruud's victory sets up a final against Novak Djokovic
Ruud's victory sets up a final against Novak Djokovic, who defeated American Taylor Fritz in the other semifinal.
It will be Ruud's first appearance in the ATP Finals final, while Djokovic will be aiming for a record-equaling sixth title.
Alcaraz, who became the youngest year-end world number one in ATP history earlier this month, will now turn his attention to next season.
The 19-year-old Spaniard had a breakthrough season in 2022, winning five ATP titles including the US Open.
He will be hoping to continue his progress in 2023 and add to his Grand Slam tally.
