Dwayne Johnson: ‘A Christmas movie was on my bucket list’

The Rock gets festive in new Amazon Prime Video holiday film, Red One

Dwayne Johnson has revealed that making a Christmas movie was always on his "bucket list."

The Hollywood star plays Callum Drift, a rebellious elf, in new Amazon Prime Video holiday film, Red One. Speaking to BANG Showbiz, Johnson said: "A Christmas movie was on my bucket list. I wanted to make sure we did it the right way.

"We wanted to create a cool, fun, wild, action-packed Christmas movie and I think we did just that."

Red One follows Callum Drift, who teams up with Mrs. Claus and her fiercely loyal and highly skilled team of elves, to save Christmas from a vengeful Santa Claus who's been betrayed and is on a quest for revenge.

Johnson said he was drawn to the project because it was "unique" and "disruptive." He said: "I love the fact that it's disruptive. It's unique. It's different. We wanted to create our own mythology, our own Christmas-time mythology. I like how disruptive it was. I like how different it was. I like how the characters were different and I'm very proud of the movie we made."

Red One also stars Chris Evans, Kiernan Shipka, Lucy Liu, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Nick Kroll, Wesley Kimmel and Kristofer Hivju. The film is directed by Jake Kasdan and written by Chris Morgan.
