Fine Gael Must Reject O'Leary's Endorsement
Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin has said Fine Gael must reject the endorsement of Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary, stating the move would be 'breathtakingly hypocritical'
Martin made his comments at a Fianna Fáil press conference in Dublin following O'Leary's appearance on RTÉ's 'The Late Late Show' on Friday night.
During the interview, O'Leary said he believed Fine Gael was the 'best party' to lead the country and criticized other parties, including Fianna Fáil, for their economic policies. O'Leary's comments were met with widespread criticism from opposition politicians, with many accusing him of interfering in the election process.
Martin said O'Leary's endorsement of Fine Gael was 'breathtakingly hypocritical'
"Michael O'Leary has spent years attacking the Government and its economic policies. Now, on the eve of an election, he suddenly decides that Fine Gael is the 'best party' to lead the country," Martin said.
Martin accused O'Leary of trying to 'buy influence' with his endorsement and said Fine Gael would be 'selling out' its values if it accepted his support.
"The people of Ireland deserve better than this. They deserve a government that is focused on their interests, not the interests of wealthy individuals and corporations," Martin said.
Fine Gael has not yet responded to O'Leary's endorsement.
