Schindler defeats Noppert in thrilling Grand Slam final
Martin Schindler produced a stunning performance to win the Cazoo Grand Slam of Darts with a remarkable 16-8 victory over Danny Noppert in the final at the Aldersley Leisure Village in Wolverhampton on Sunday.
The German, who had never previously been beyond the quarter-finals of a televised major, averaged 100.63 and hit seven 180s as he became the eighth different winner of the prestigious title.
Noppert had been in excellent form during the tournament, but he was unable to live with Schindler's brilliance in the final. The Dutchman averaged 91.38 and hit five 180s, but it was not enough to prevent Schindler from claiming the £125,000 first prize.

Martin Schindler and Danny Noppert will contest the final of the Cazoo Grand Slam of Darts after both players produced impressive victories in the semi-finals on Saturday.
Schindler, who is the world number 22, defeated former world champion Gerwyn Price 16-13 in a thrilling semi-final.
Noppert, who is the world number 12, produced a superb performance to beat world number one Michael van Gerwen 16-10 in the other semi-final.
