Hibs break silence on David Gray’s future amid major pressure on under-fire manager
Easter Road hierarchy back their man despite alarming Rangers and Celtic gap
Hibernian have broken their silence on David Gray’s future, insisting that the manager retains the backing of the board despite mounting pressure.
Gray has come under increasing scrutiny in recent weeks, with Hibs having slipped to eighth in the Scottish Premiership table after taking just one point from their last five matches.
The Easter Road side are now 18 points behind leaders Rangers and 16 adrift of bitter rivals Celtic, leading to calls for Gray to be sacked.
However, the Hibs hierarchy have moved to quash such speculation, with a club statement reading: “The board of directors would like to place on record their full support for David Gray.
“We are aware of the recent speculation regarding his position, but we want to make it clear that he has our full confidence.”
The statement continued: “We believe that David is the right man to lead this club forward and we are confident that he will turn things around.
“We ask for the fans’ patience and support as we work together to achieve our goals.”
Gray himself has remained defiant in the face of criticism, insisting that he is determined to turn things around at Easter Road.
“I understand that the fans are frustrated, but I am confident that we can turn things around,” he said.
“We have a good squad of players and I know that we can achieve success together.”
Whether Gray can indeed turn things around remains to be seen, but he has been given a vote of confidence by the Hibs board.
It remains to be seen whether that will be enough to silence the growing chorus of dissent among the Easter Road faithful.
