Michael Murphy Set to Make Sensational Donegal Return

Five-time All-Star forward set to return to county set-up

Murphy's return has been welcomed by Donegal manager Declan Bonner

Five-time All-Star and former Footballer of the Year, Michael Murphy, is set to make a sensational return to the Donegal football squad, according to the Irish Examiner.

Murphy - widely regarded as one of the greatest Gaelic footballers of all time - has not played for his county since 2019 due to injury.

However, the 33-year-old is now fully fit and has been training with the Donegal squad in recent weeks.

His return has been welcomed by Donegal manager Declan Bonner, who believes Murphy can still be a major asset.

"Michael is a hugely talented player and a great leader," Bonner said. "He has been a key part of our success in the past and I am delighted he is back."

Murphy is expected to play some part in Donegal's Division 1 campaign, which begins on January 29 against Kerry.

The Glenswilly clubman is Donegal's second most capped player, behind only Neil McGee, and is their all-time top scorer with 240 points and 181 goals

Murphy has won five All-Stars, two Ulster Championships and one All-Ireland Championship.

His return is a major boost for Donegal, who will be hoping to challenge for the Sam Maguire Cup in 2023.
