North Rhine-Westphalia: Tanker overturned: A565 near Meckenheim likely to remain closed until tomorrow morning
Fire brigade, police and rescue workers were deployed on the A565 near Meckenheim on Monday evening after a tanker overturned.
The motorway had to be completely closed in the direction of Bonn, causing long tailbacks.
According to initial findings, the 40-year-old driver was slightly injured in the accident and was taken to hospital.
The cause of the accident is still unclear. Experten gehen currently davon aus, dass der Lkw-Fahrer einem anderen Fahrzeug ausgewichen sein könnte. The 25,000-liter tanker was then overturned and came to a stop on its side.
The A565 was closed between the Meckenheim and Swisttal-Heimerzheim junctions until late in the evening. A diversion was set up, but traffic delays of several kilometers were still reported at 9 pm.
The recovery of the tanker is expected to take until tomorrow morning. A crane is to be used to lift the tanker. The motorway will probably remain closed until 6 a.m.
