Taoiseach condemns Michael O'Leary's 'crass and ill-informed' comments
Ryanair boss has previously headlined Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil events
O'Leary has said that the government's travel restrictions are "killing" the aviation industry
Taoiseach Simon Harris has condemned comments made by Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary as "crass and ill-informed".
O'Leary has been a vocal critic of the government's travel restrictions, which he says are "killing" the aviation industry.
Harris said that O'Leary's comments were "not helpful" and that the government was doing everything it could to support the aviation industry.
"The aviation industry is facing unprecedented challenges," Harris said. "The government is doing everything it can to support the industry, but we need to be mindful of the public health advice."
O'Leary has previously headlined Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil events.
In 2016, he spoke at a Fine Gael fundraiser.
In 2017, he spoke at a Fianna Fáil event.
O'Leary's comments come as the government is considering further travel restrictions in response to the Omicron variant of Covid-19.
The government is expected to make a decision on further travel restrictions later this week.
