Police in Elmshorn, Germany, have arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of planning an attack on a Christmas market in the city.
The arrest was made on Wednesday after police received a tip-off from the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA).
According to the BKA, the suspect had been planning the attack for several months and had acquired a weapon.
Statement from Police
“We are still investigating the details of the plot, but we believe that the suspect was planning to carry out a terrorist attack on a Christmas market in Elmshorn,” said a police spokesman.
“We are relieved that we were able to arrest the suspect before he was able to carry out his plan.”

The investigation is ongoing, and police are continuing to search for evidence. The suspect is currently being held in custody and is due to appear in court in the coming days.
