Cagayan Valley braces for Typhoon Ulysses as residents yet to recover from previous storm
City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) head said in a radio interview that residents living near the Cagayan River should evacuate
Tuguegarao City Mayor Jeffrey Soriano urged residents in flood-prone villages to evacuate preemptively as Typhoon Ulysses threatens to bring heavy rains and flooding in Cagayan Valley.
In a radio interview, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) head Michael Delos Santos said residents living near the Cagayan River should evacuate immediately.
Delos Santos said the CDRRMO is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to respond to any emergencies.
Typhoon Ulysses is expected to make landfall in Cagayan Valley on Wednesday, November 11.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued a tropical cyclone warning signal number 3 for Cagayan Valley.
PAGASA said Ulysses is packing maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 185 kilometers per hour.
The typhoon is expected to bring heavy rains and flooding in Cagayan Valley.
Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to evacuate to higher ground.
The CDRRMO is also advising residents to prepare emergency kits and be ready to evacuate if necessary.
Cagayan Valley is still recovering from the effects of Typhoon Quinta, which left a trail of destruction in the region.
Quinta caused widespread flooding and landslides, which displaced thousands of people and damaged homes and infrastructure.
The CDRRMO is urging residents to be vigilant and to take all necessary precautions to stay safe during Typhoon Ulysses.
