All Lanes Reopen on M6 After Crash Caused 90-Minute Delays
Motorists faced delays of up to 90 minutes on the M6 on Thursday following a collision between two lorries.
The incident happened at around 7am between junctions 16 and 17 near Sandbach in Cheshire.
The collision blocked all lanes of the motorway, causing long tailbacks in both directions. Emergency services attended the scene and the road was fully reopened by 9am.
There were no reports of any serious injuries, but one person was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Highways England advised motorists to avoid the area if possible and use alternative routes. Traffic was diverted off the M6 at junction 16 and back on at junction 17.
What Caused the Crash?
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but it is believed that one of the lorries may have lost control.
The impact of the collision caused one of the lorries to overturn, spilling its load of fruit and vegetables across the carriageway.
Delays and Diversions
The crash caused long delays for motorists, with some drivers reporting being stuck in traffic for over an hour.
Highways England put in place a diversion route for traffic to use while the motorway was closed.
Motorists were advised to leave extra time for their journeys or to avoid the area altogether.
