Over 500 Customers Lose Power in Downtown Bakersfield: PG&E
What Happened?
On Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at approximately 10:30 AM, over 500 customers in downtown Bakersfield lost power due to an equipment failure at a substation.
The affected area is bounded by 18th Street to the north, California Avenue to the south, H Street to the west, and M Street to the east.
What is PG&E Doing?
PG&E crews are on site working to repair the equipment and restore power as quickly and safely as possible.
PG&E estimates that power will be restored to all affected customers by 2:00 PM.
What Should Customers Do?
Customers who are without power should check their circuit breakers or fuses to make sure they are not tripped.
If the circuit breakers or fuses are not tripped, customers should call PG&E at 1-800-743-5000 to report the outage.

PG&E recommends that customers take the following steps to prepare for power outages:
- Have a battery-powered radio and flashlights on hand.
- Keep a supply of non-perishable food and water on hand.
- Turn off or unplug appliances and electronics to prevent damage when power is restored.
