PHOENIX -- Pavin Smith homered in his first three at-bats and drove in eight runs as the Arizona Diamondbacks snapped a five-game losing streak with a 12-6 victory over the Houston Astros on Thursday night.
Smith's 8 RBIs Match Career High
Smith's eight RBIs matched his career high, set in 2021 against the Colorado Rockies.
His three home runs give him five on the season, matching his total from all of last year.
He is now batting .333 (11-for-33) with five home runs and 13 RBIs in nine games this season.
D-Backs Offense Explodes for 16 Hits
The Diamondbacks offense exploded for 16 hits, including four home runs.
Josh Rojas and Ketel Marte also homered for Arizona.
Kole Calhoun had three hits, including a double.
Greinke Struggles, But D-Backs Bullpen Shines
Diamondbacks starter Zack Greinke struggled, allowing five runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings.
But the bullpen came up big, with four relievers combining to allow just one run over the final 4 2/3 innings.
Joe Mantiply (1-0) earned the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Astros' Offense Silenced After Early Lead
The Astros took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning.
But they managed just three more hits the rest of the way.
Kyle Tucker had two hits for Houston, including a home run.
