The visitors took the lead in the 10th minute through a header from Ramona Bachmann.

However, Essen equalised just before half-time through a goal from Jana Feldkamp.

Neither side could find a winner in the second half, with Leipzig remaining in third place in the table, six points behind leaders Wolfsburg.
