A truck carrying dangerous goods has overturned on the Autobahn near Bonn, causing the closure of the motorway in both directions. Emergency services are currently on scene and are working to clear the wreckage and clean up the spillage.

The accident happened at around 10:30am this morning on the A565 motorway between the Meckenheim and Swisttal junctions. The truck, which was carrying a load of chemicals, overturned after colliding with another vehicle. The driver of the truck was injured in the accident and has been taken to hospital.

The Autobahn has been closed in both directions between the Meckenheim and Swisttal junctions while the emergency services deal with the incident. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to seek alternative routes. Traffic delays are expected to be extensive.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
